Cassius Releases Remix of Robyn's 2010 Hit "Dancing On My Own"

French duo Cassius have put out a remix of Robyn’s 2010 hit “Dancing On My Own,” and it’s difficult to figure out why. Fred Falke already remixed the song when it came out, and his version was fantastic, so it’s not like another remix six years later was necessary. Doing a remix of an old song is often a good way to start a career--look at Vancouver’s Cyril Hahn, whose pitched-down bootleg reimagining of “Say My Name” as a lushly percussive disco anthem thrust him instantly into the spotlight--but Cassius have been around since 1996 and they’ve been sampled by fucking Jay-Z.

Maybe the point is that it’s fun to remix a good pop song. While this skittering, purposely cheap-sounding (did they use a $2,000 vintage drum machine or a pirated copy of Fruity Loops? Who cares?) ripoff of the Beverly Hills Cop theme “Axel F” isn’t going to do anything for Cassius besides earn them a side-eye from Harold Faltermeyer, they probably had a good time making it, and now you have an excuse to listen to “Dancing On My Own” again.
