Cat Power Releases "Woman" Featuring Lana Del Rey

Cat Power has been an indelible part of the American songbook for the last couple decades. Her songs are as beautiful as they are diverse. Her absence the last few years has definitely been felt but now Chan Marshall is back with a new single and video for “Woman”, off of her upcoming tenth studio album Wanderer (October 5th, Domino Records). Featuring some help from Lana Del Ray, “Woman” is quintessential Cat Power. A healthy dose of Americana tiered by a solid driving rhythm section and dreamy harmonies. It’s a song that feels like it could’ve come up at any point in her storied career but also one that feels necessary in today’s climate. The video, directed by her longtime collaborator Greg Hunt, chooses to step back and let Marshall and the song speak for itself. Shot against the backdrop of a skyline at sunset, a glowing studio and an LA canyon, Hunt paints a pretty picture but lets the viewer sink into the music. Wanderer may not be out until October 5th but it’s nice to know that Cat Power is back and that there’s much more to come.
