Perhaps the street-art focused Show And Tell Gallery founded and directed by Simon Cole in Toronto rings a bell. If you haven't checked out Cooper Cole Gallery on Dupont Street since its opening, you should put that on your to-do list. Also founded and directed by Simon Cole, Cooper Cole is, in fact, somewhat of a rebrand of his previous gallery concept.
Cole's new space isn't exactly a complete departure from Show And Tell. However, from its early days in late 2011, the project already had an identity of its own and quickly established itself as a successful gallery. While Cooper Cole strays from the glossiness of traditional galleries, it still projects a classy minimalistic look. The space itself showcases a spacious main room with several other rooms that open or close in on different works.
In terms of artists, Cooper Cole's lineup is quite interesting. Varying intensity and style, the artist roster puts forth artists who've never shown in Canada, while also giving attention to emerging and mid-career International and Canadian artists. Don't miss the solo exhibitions by Scott Treleaven and Georgia Dickie, set to run until February 18th. Head over to the gallery's Facebook page for more details or RSVP.
