The Gaze | Meet Me In The Middle by Talia Shipman

After making many heads turn at the 2016 Toronto Internation Art Fair, Talia Shipman's work is now on show in Vancouver at the Back Gallery Project. Her exhibition "Meet Me In The Middle" explores the human and natural world's tendency to transform. Shipman's photographs bring forth an imagined post-apocalyptic world in which she uses the color turquoise as a metaphor for water, fluidity and change, and where she replaces basic needs are by consumer objects.

More than just a search for balance within ecosystems, however, the Vancouver-raised/Toronto-LA based artist addresses her concerns about environmental issues, capitalism, social conventions and ultimately, her personal quest for identity. An exhibition so compelling the prestigious HBC Global Collection in NYC acquired the artist's entire "Meet Me In The Middle" 2016 series as a permanent installation.

Talia Shipman's "Meet Me In The Middle" opening reception was held on January 5th. The exhibition, however, will be on show until January 28th, 2017. For additional information, contact [email protected]
