Pissed Jeans - "The Bar Is Low"

Sub Pop’s mighty Pissed Jeans are back. The first single, “The Bar Is Low”, from their upcoming album Why Love Now dropped today and it’s perfectly as angry, sarcastic and scathing a song as you would expect from the Philadelphia-based post hardcore purveyors.  All grinding bass and authoritative riffs, “The Bar Is Low” is an indictment of today’s male and how often so many of the men that we look up to end up being revealed as awful people. Singer Matt Korvette growls, “Those we adore, haven’t spilled their secrets yet” and in typical Pissed Jeans self deprecating fashion he continues, “I’m the picture of the noble guy, let me explain why, the bar is low.”

Produced by no wave pioneer Lydia Lunch and Philly metal veteran Arthur Rizk, “The Bar is Low” finds Pissed Jeans in top form. Korvette’s vocals are stronger, louder and more up front than we’ve heard before and the band has intensity without sacrificing swagger. Why Love Now is out on Sub Pop Records February 24th and I am looking forward to hearing what else Pissed Jeans have up their sleeves. With what is happening in the world today, it’s great to have this type of vital social commentary, one that is as exposing as it is entertaining.
