Holy Ghost! | Dynamics [REVIEW]

Being born in the nineties, I missed out on the inception of a lot of things like Inspector Gadget and Super Mario Bros. (which I've played, just never finished). And according to my siblings, a lot of influential music came out of the eighties, such as New Order, Talking Heads, and Depeche Mode. It seems a lot of electronic pop/rock bands are emulations of the genres they grew up on. While that may not always be a bad thing, Holy Ghost!'s second album Dynamics aims to put their best feet forward into a genre with more than enough shoes on the rack. The album falls short of being an original sounding production, and instead feels unnatural and a little too inspired by their tape collections. There are a few solid songs, but what's left of the album is forgettable. I enjoy nostalgia as much as the next person, but sometimes those memories are best left alone like your high school yearbook. Is this what I can expect for my mid-life crisis?
