Jesse Rose | The Whole Twelve Inches [ALBUM REVIEW]

Theodor Adorno once famously wrote, “When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.” As a lifelong student of communications theory, I take Adorno’s work very seriously and it’s taught me how to look at music through a critical lens. The same lens any creator of culture, in this case, Jesse Rose, should look through when creating a new piece of music (culture). Unfortunately his creation, The Whole Twelve Inches, is terrible. This entire record is incredibly outdated and is one giant snooze fest. Nothing fresh happens on this album and his once innovator status has been revoked. I’ve also failed to mention up to now that this is an album. WHY IS THIS AN ALBUM? No one wants to listen to a 4x4 pattern for 12 tracks, with little variation except for a female vocal sample on “Find Your Feet”, and a pitched down vocal sample on “It’s Been Like That For a Minute.” If the year was 2007 then yes, this would be a very interesting album, or at least have some highlights, but it’s 2014. If you want to listen to something exciting, search for record labels like L.I.E.S., Russian Torrent Versions or even Vancouver’s own Mood Hut. If you want to be transported via time machine to boring-ville take a listen to The Whole Twelve Inches.
