Natural Child | Dancin’ With Wolves [ALBUM REVIEW]

With the spring & summer music festival quickly approaching, now is the time to tie down the rest of those loose ends. Whether you’re taking the Greyhound to Washington or driving down to California in your friend’s sweet RV, an iPod jammed with travellin’ tunes is essential to knocking down those miles. Natural Child’s third album Dancin’ With Wolves captures the sound of the long haul by moonlight, last-chance gas stations, and cooking dinner on the engine block (which is really good, apparently). The Nashville trio delivers an album that’s rooted in southern rock with crunchy leads, thunking bass, lap steel guitar, a Hammond organ, Rhodes vibe, with hints of British Invasion. It wouldn’t feel right to call it a revival of southern rock, but it’s great when bands sound like they were plucked from the 60s & 70s and transplanted to current time. If you can name a rock & roll band from that era, Dancin’ With Wolves deserves a spot on your road trip playlist.
