The Band In Heaven is four men and one woman: Ates Isildak, Lauren Dwyer, Joel Tillman, Ryan Burk, Ryan Schemm and they hail from… wait, you can just look that up yourself. We’re not writing their bio. We asked Ates a few questions to get to know who they really are. Also enjoy an exclusive download premiere of their song “Fairweather Friends”.
Who in the band...
...is the first to derail rehearsals because of distraction and why?
Ryan Burk, our sampler player and tambourinist, made me add an airhorn sound to his sampler. He'll play this incessantly in practice, especially if someone is trying to talk.
...has had a memorable celebrity experience worth sharing?
Lauren once made the mistake of telling Anton Newcombe that he dropped some of his guitar picks on the ground. He proceeded to make fun of her and her glasses.
...would hypothetically be the first to go solo if offered a big chunk of cash? (pretend as if that happens still)
Ryan Burk because he's the biggest crook in the band. But no, really probably me, because I’m the proper "songwriter".
...could be a closet Doctor Who fan?
Joel and Lauren love Doctor Who. But I think as a band we are X Files fans. X Philes.
...grew up in the biggest house?
All of us were pretty poor. We haven't compared childhood houses yet, but I can't imagine any of them were extravagant. We take pride in our humble upbringings.
...can't drive?
Everyone can drive; you have to drive in Florida, but I’m the most dangerous. We've run into so many cars on tour and sped off.
...is the strongest? (The drummer? It's the drummer, isn't it?)
Both Jay and Ryan Burk box at the same gym. Jay probably has the most physical strength. He broke open a punching bag recently.
...can eat the most?
The entire band actually is very skilled at eating massive amounts of food. Lauren Dwyer can eat an outrageous amount for how little she is. When we went to Austin for SXSW, we nearly shut the place down.
...has the worst taste in music?
We all have pretty good taste in music, but we collectively as a band love listening to CCR but Ryan, the drummer, hates it. It's so sad.
...has the nicest handwriting?
The girl.
...is the best cook?
Not the girl. I think it's Ryan Schemm.
...is the first to wake up in the morning?
Me on tour. Lauren in real life.
...can't live without Facebook?
Ryan Schemm doesn't have one which is impressive. I do all the online stuff. I’m pretty much attached to it.
