Colin Cowan & the Elastic Stars | Whispers to Rockefeller [VIDEO]

What a difference effort makes. This is a love story that is left enough of centre that you might actually pay attention. Did I say "love story?" Because I meant a story of lost love in which Vancouver thespian Paul Anthony expertly projects some aching want right into your soul. Anthem Jackson directs with some gorgeously muted tones that compliment this beautifully lonely song by Colin Cowan & the Elastic Stars to a T. Cleanse that soul. Cleanse it with fire.

Politics of Fashion | Fashion of Politics

Fashion and politics—not a duo that you’d usually pair together. But looking back in history, fashion has been used as a powerful medium for expression, and that’s exactly what the Design Exchange’s Politics of Fashion | Fashion of Politics exhibition focuses on. In partnership with Canadian fashion icon Jeanne Beker, the exhibit spans six decades, with 200 pieces that have ignited political awareness, and simultaneously dictated style through the decades.

The Rentals | Lost In Alphaville [ALBUM REVIEW]

Are you a teenage lover on the run? Maybe you're trying to recapture some lost youth? I mean, you may be trying to make Face/Off II starring Pickles and Chips (your cat and dog respectively)? I don't know. I'm not a doctor. What I do know however is that this new The Rentals record has the soundtrack to properly fit any crazy scenario you're likely to find yourself in.

Literature | Chorus [ALBUM REVIEW]

Chorus, the sophomore album from Philadelphia’s Literature, kicks off with "The Girl, The Gold Watch, and Everything," and what an opening statement it is. The track has energy to burn, a healthy amount of ba-ba-bas, and even a punctuating horn section. It takes the term ‘twee’ completely off the table when discussing the band. Every song featured here is a journey.

Elephant Stone | The Three Poisons [ALBUM REVIEW]

It isn’t often that I consciously think about how well an album is curated. It happens once in a while, where upon the first few listens, I become acutely aware of how well the first song flows into the second and that gets you ready for the third, and by that point you’re totally aware of what the band is trying to convey to you. Elephant Stone’s recent output, The Three Poisons, hit me in exactly this way.
