Our Easy-Bake Nationalism

The summer is long around here, but at least it starts with a bang on July 1, when Ottawa embraces its role as the theoretical centre of all that is Canadiana, when the politicians trot up to the Hill again in the heat, sing the national anthem and watch a few bands most of us have never heard of play for the throng of red and white clapping hands and smiling, sweat-soaked faces. It usually rains sometime during the afternoon, just long enough to push the midday shift of drinkers from the patios and make room for the evening teams.

EXCLUSIVE | Christopher Smith's Pillars + Pyre [VIDEO]

Vancouver songwriter Christopher Smith has announced his sophomore full-length, Earning Keep, the follow up to his 2010 debut, The Beckon Call. The song "Pillars and Pyre" is the first single off of the album and we are very proud to have the Canadian exclusive of the video. Earning Keep finds Smith expanding upon his musical palette with more diverse instrumentation and expansive atmospherics.

Listen to Jeremy Glenn's soft and über cool eighties inspired beats, and it's hard not to close your eyes and imagine yourself on a summer soaked euro-beach, sunglasses on, partying away with the coolest and most beautiful people you've ever met.

Tyler Armstrong | Guillotine Dreams

Tyler Armstrong is a fairly new addition to the Toronto art scene, but this artist has been painting for years, and what started as a weekend hobby has transformed into a heated passion. A self taught artist, Tyler daringly creates haunting and darker images with wild lines and vibrant colour that seem to balance in perfect harmony along side the disturbing imagery.
