Starting tomorrow, May 11th, the live art performance company Wig in a Box will be performing Docile Bodies, their adaptation of Foucault’s Discipline and Punish. The show explores the ways in which power is internalized and perpetuated unconsciously, specifically in relation to gender and queerness.

Lament as men my age (and often, race) will about the irrelevance of guitar-based music for the past decade and a half, there's a certain glee I'm sure most of us feel that every new song made with your standard instrument lineup (bass, drums, guitar) feels like a little secret gem we get to keep in a rose-scented box under our beds, away from all the manic episodes that permeate the Hot 100 and leftfield dance scenes. 

Vancouver’s The Ballantynes are known for their combustible live performances. They’ve proven that they have been able to translate this fire to all the 7 inches, EPs and their stellar full length album Dark Drives, Life Signs, but to see them in a live setting is a kin to what it must’ve been like seeing the birth of rock 'n' roll. The playing is raw and electric, the personalities are big, and above all else, every single soul in the room can’t stop dancing.
