The Rentals | Lost In Alphaville [ALBUM REVIEW]

Are you a teenage lover on the run? Maybe you're trying to recapture some lost youth? I mean, you may be trying to make Face/Off II starring Pickles and Chips (your cat and dog respectively)? I don't know. I'm not a doctor. What I do know however is that this new The Rentals record has the soundtrack to properly fit any crazy scenario you're likely to find yourself in.

Literature | Chorus [ALBUM REVIEW]

Chorus, the sophomore album from Philadelphia’s Literature, kicks off with "The Girl, The Gold Watch, and Everything," and what an opening statement it is. The track has energy to burn, a healthy amount of ba-ba-bas, and even a punctuating horn section. It takes the term ‘twee’ completely off the table when discussing the band. Every song featured here is a journey.

Elephant Stone | The Three Poisons [ALBUM REVIEW]

It isn’t often that I consciously think about how well an album is curated. It happens once in a while, where upon the first few listens, I become acutely aware of how well the first song flows into the second and that gets you ready for the third, and by that point you’re totally aware of what the band is trying to convey to you. Elephant Stone’s recent output, The Three Poisons, hit me in exactly this way.

Riot Fest Rocks Toronto

Riot Fest rocked through Downsview Park this past weekend in what was a muddied yet festive event. First off, kudos have to go to the organizers of this third Toronto incarnation of the event, that began 10 years ago in Chicago as a small punk inspired music festival alternative to other larger events. The past two versions took place at the smaller Fort York site in downtown Toronto, a place easier to get to, but with limited space for stage set-ups.

Death From Above 1979 | The Physical World [ALBUM REVIEW]

Wake up wake up, it's Christmas morning! That new Death from Above 1979 record you wanted is here and ready to unwrap. Good thing you got that Delorean last Christmas to take you back 10 years to when you actually might've enjoyed this. Sabastien "and the mountains" Grainger and Jesse "MSTRKRFT" Keeler are together again to bring you what can only begrudgingly be described as a new DFA 1979 record.
