Stunt Brings Toronto To Montreal

You are walking down the street minding your own business and suddenly, two people come up to you and ask you questions like, “How many subway lines are there in Montreal?” or “At what time do bars close in Montreal?” Would you know the answers? A handful of lucky people actually did! As their reward, they were given one hour to get ready and jump on an Air Canada flight for an all-expenses-paid trip to the fabulous city, courtesy of Tourisme Montreal.

Pappeal Tyvek Bags

We’re big on bags this month, and we stumbled across this start up, Pappeal Tyvekderived from a unique idea to use paper—which makes beautiful, simple and durable bags. Available in duffel, messenger and backpack versions, they are the result of a collaboration between three people with a desire to create something unusual and exclusive. And that’s exactly what they did.

Todd Terje | It’s Album Time [ALBUM REVIEW]

Prior to this album, Todd Terje released Spiral, a two-track EP whose songs were a little too ambitious, and while being well produced, I couldn’t sit myself down to enjoy it as much as his previous work. The news of a debut album had me a little weary of what he could offer but I was delighted to hear my reservations be crushed by the sonic force of Terje.

Coachella 2014

It’s that time of year again…where the bronzed and beautiful folk come together to prance around in their Topshop honed outfits, head dresses and crop tops, all while having some of the world’s biggest acts and incredible live performers as their backdrop. Let’s concentrate on the latter, shall we. This year we have Canadian heavyweights Arcade Fire as headliners, as well as Outkast, which we’re super excited about.

iHeart

We are in love with this local Vancouver street artist’s work so much that we couldn’t help but slot him into our Of The Month for Issue 90, even though we heard about him a while ago. iHeart, helped along a little by a small viral push by Banksy (the irony is certainly not lost considering his concentration on social media), has been leaving his inkings and etchings all over the city of Vancouver for quite some time and is finally getting the recognition he deserves.

Nocturnal Workshop

This West Coast brand hails from Vancouver and makes tech-heritage inspired backpacks and accessories from 3M reflective material. The Nocturnal Workshop backpacks are designed by artisans in Vancouver and Seattle, and with slim silhouettes and minimalist designs they are perfect for the commuter and the urbanite. NW collections come in various colours and even include an all over black reflective backpack.

Mac DeMarco | Wild Thing

One of the many fascinating things about Canadian musician, multi-instrumentalist, and renowned joker, Mac DeMarco, is the dichotomy between his crooned, swoon-worthy catalogue, and his oddly raw and rude public persona. Take, for instance, how his softly strummed songs about true love contrast with live show stories of DeMarco swinging from the rafters, finger betwixt his butt cheeks.

London Grammar

When I meet London Grammar’s Dan Rothman, he’s struggling with a coffeepot. In his defence, he’s not used to them. “You can’t get a decent cup of tea outside of Britain,” he laughs; a sheepish reiteration of the plight of many caffeine-deprived ex-pats before him.
